Managing Customer Information during Driver Shortages

Following a workshop earlier in January this document has been produced to help understand how customer information systems can better be managed during the current driver shortage. 
This document identifies a number of actions that may help the industry longer term with managing high volumes of short notice changes and cancellations.

The Bus services around the Christmas and New Year period will often operate differently to normal weeks. 

The data for use in services such as the Department for Transport Bus Open Data Service , Traveline, journey planners, real time systems and mobile phone apps all need to be updated to reflect the changed operation. 

This advice deals with how to prepare data for the BODS service to ensure that it is correct for the Christmas and New Year 2021 holiday period. 

TransXChange PTI Profile v1.1.A Webinar Recording

The latest TransXChange v2.4 Public Transport Information profile has been released.

The current version is now 1.1.A, updated from v 1.1 on 5 July 2021.
Version 1.1.A is the version that the Bus Open Data Service will be using.

The v1.1.A is an update to v1.1, the changes largely being updates to fix implementation issues and inclusion of information on the BODS validator.

SIRI v2.0 has been around since 2013. A lot has changed in the world of public transport technology in the subsequent 8 years.

To ensure that the SIRI standard meets current and foreseeable future requirements and known problems with the schema are fixed an update to the standard has been being worked on by the CEN SIRI working group for the last couple of years.

The measurement of vehicle occupancy for buses in real time is not something that was carried out regularly or, was in widespread use in the UK until the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the course of 2020, significant work was carried out and progress made, by suppliers and bus operators to introduce passenger counting solutions and present the information to passengers. 
Advice was provided in RTIGT039 Providing Vehicle Occupancy Data:- Data Interfaces in May 2020.

Traffic Light Priority Trigger Position File Format

The report from the Traffic Light Priority Trigger Position File working group has now been published.

Existing work from RTIG: specifically, the documents T008 andT031, provide the specification and methodology for the transmission of data from public service vehicles, such as buses and trams, to traffic signals. These provide technical frameworks to provide priority for public transport vehicles at signalised junctions in an interoperable manner.

Updated Report: Real Time Information Exchange Using the SIRI Standard

The guide to SIRI has been updated. The previous version had not been updated for many years and was out of date.

This report outlines the background to SIRI and describes the different functional services provided as well as addressing how SIRI can be used in procurements.
