The English bus strategy and many national and local policies and plans put significant focus on authorities to provide bus priority along congested roads and at signalised junctions.

The sight of a bus approaching a signalised junction with a green light waving it through belies the amount of systems
and dependencies that need to work together.

RTIG has produced over the years technical documents on how to technically achieve bus priority at signalised junctions. These are not easily understood unless you have a deep understanding of traffic signal and bus technologies.

With many more people becoming interested in bus priority it has become clear that there is a requirement for improved understanding of how traffic lights work and how they are managed.

To help provide an understanding of what goes into achieving traffic signal priority for buses we have produced this interactive PDF guide to "How does Traffic Signal Bus Priority work"?
